The owners had been quoted by three other contractors who recommended chemical stripping — a method that would have been faster but significantly harsher on logs of this age and species.

Project Overview

Execute a full exterior restoration that respected the age and condition of the white pine logs while delivering eight to ten years of additional service life. Specifically: strip decades of failed clear sealer using corn-cob media blasting (the gentler alternative to chemical stripping for aged softwood), inspect every log for rot and structural compromise, repair or fully replace failed chinking sections, and apply two coats of premium breathable exterior stain matched to the original log home aesthetic. Address the sill log moisture damage with targeted preservative injection before the next winter cycle.
