Deck Cleaning by Beaver Wood Restoration

How We Professionally Clean a Deck

Chemistry-first cleaning combining wood-safe cleaner, brightener, and calibrated low-pressure rinsing to restore weathered wood without fibre damage.

  1. 01

    Surface preparation

We clear furniture, mask adjacent surfaces, and saturate surrounding plants with water to dilute any chemical overspray.

  2. 02

    Cleaner application and dwell

A wood-safe cleaner is applied evenly across the deck and allowed to dwell 10 to 20 minutes. The chemistry breaks down grey oxidation, organic growth, and embedded dirt without requiring high pressure.

  3. 03

    Calibrated low-pressure rinse

We rinse at pressure calibrated to the wood species — typically 600 to 800 PSI for cedar and softwoods. The wand is held a controlled distance from the surface to avoid fibre damage.

  4. 04

    Brightener application

A wood brightener is applied to neutralize the alkaline cleaner, restore the natural pH, and reverse any darkening caused by tannin reaction. This step is essential for proper stain absorption.

  5. 05

    Final rinse and dry-down

The deck is rinsed clean and allowed 24 to 72 hours of dry weather to reach optimal moisture content before any subsequent staining work proceeds.

  • Calibrated pressure washer
  • Soft-wash applicator
  • Stiff-bristle brushes

Products we use

For all stain and refinishing work, we apply Expert Stain & Seal contractor-grade penetrating oil-based stains — formulated for the freeze-thaw and humidity conditions in the Greater Toronto Area. Expert Stain & Seal penetrates deeply into cedar and pressure-treated lumber rather than forming a film on top, so the finish renews with cleaning and recoating instead of requiring full stripping. For surface preparation we use commercial-grade percarbonate cleaners and oxalic-acid wood brighteners; for hardwood floor work we use commercial-grade polyurethane in oil-based or water-based formulations matched to your floor.

Took our 15 yr old front deck & made it look brand new again! Quick, efficient & when done cleaned up all supplies like they had never even been here! Definitely recommended & for sure will use this company again when its time to redo it!

Had an issue with my fence and deck. Another company told me I would have to replace it and it was beyond saving. So glad I got a second opinion. The guys at beaver wood saved both and it looks amazing. Company was very professional did what they said they would do and finished a full day before the deadline. Great company highly recommend them to all my family and friends. Before the problem gets bad reach out to the guys and they can save you a lot of trouble and money. That was surely the case with me.

Deck Cleaning — Questions Toronto Homeowners Ask

Power washing is one tool used during a deck cleaning job. A complete deck cleaning includes a wood-safe chemical pre-treatment to break down grey oxidation, mould, and mildew, followed by carefully calibrated low-pressure rinsing, and finished with a wood brightener that restores the natural pH so stain will adhere properly. Power washing alone, without the chemistry, often does more harm than good on softwoods like cedar.

A full professional clean every 2 to 3 years is typical, usually paired with a re-stain. Annual light maintenance — a soft-wash rinse and spot-cleaning of any mould or algae growth — extends finish life noticeably and is something most homeowners can do themselves with the right product.

It can, in the wrong hands. Pressure above roughly 1,500 PSI fuzzes and gouges softwoods like cedar and pine. We calibrate pressure per surface and per wood species — typically under 800 PSI for cedar and softwoods, with the wand held a controlled distance from the surface. The chemistry does most of the work; the pressure is just rinsing.
